Snarky Thursday.

I got the Athleta catalog today, and, while there are a couple of items I would try on if there was a store nearby, there were some royally hideous things.  I laughed out loud at a couple!
(Clockwise from the top)
- I think that their prints are the absolute worst. It's Chicos meets Kmart lingerie.
- This dress is perfect for a Star Trek themed wedding!
- Did they have tons of extra yardage of this fabric? Why all the layers? So unflattering.
- Down is never very flattering, but this also has a mandarin collar and an asymmetrical zipper. And it's orange.

If Athleta ever wants to mail me some free clothing to try then maybe I could write a review! But I'm not gonna gamble my own cash on it. Plus the resale factor is another reason that I buy lulu.
Do you guys like Athleta? Do you think I'm the meanest?
Please share!

    1. Glad to entertain! I think that I've been watching too much Sons of Anarchy, cause I feel like they are a rival gang!

  2. Haven't ever been in their store, although I have walked by and peeked in the door and wondered what all the fuss is about! And I have to agree those prints on the tanks are the worst, especially that feather/paisley thing on the purple tank!

    1. I am not really a fan of prints in general, but those are just so so bad, Glad to know I'm not alone!

  3. I had never stepped foot into an Athleta until recently. I was getting frustrated with not being able to find crops in Lululemon that weren't sheer. I decided I would have to look elsewhere. My cousin recommended Athleta and I found crops and pants that are not sheer!!! I also discovered a few other items I really like. I do agree that there are some items that boggle my mind, but that can be the case for me at Lulu as well. I've also become frustrated with the Swiftly's because I just had my second snag and rip after only one wear! I found the breathe tee at Athleta and I love it!!! So there are some items that I will definitely be going back to Athleta for.

    1. Did you bring your snagged Swiftly back to the store? I have found that since pants-gate they are much more willing to work with you in regards to quality control! And I am totally willing to try other brands, but it's a lot of work when you don't have a store nearby. But maybe they will open one up here soon, as we just got a Lole and Lorna Jane!

    2. My second swiftly just snagged last night (first time wearing!) so I have not had the chance to take it in to my store yet, but I hope to get there next week. I will be extremely disappointed if they don't give me a credit.

I have to agree with Dewa. The chaturanga tights are great! Not sheer and no pilling. And honestly I wouldn't have given Athleta a try unless there was a store by me, so I understand you there.

    3. KINDA off topic but not really... i recently took back a spin to win tank -- about a year, maybe year and a half old, the straps were buckeling and i never EVER complain about things but I went there to return somethng else and brought it to explain the prob. REFUND!!! in store credit but whatever. wow!! so impressed, no questions asked. very happy :)

  4. Some of their stuff is pretty ugly. BUT, I have totally fallen for their chaturanga tights. They are so soft and cozy and not the least bit sheer. And they are not pilling like all of my recent LLL bottoms have. I love the petite option, so I might be revisiting their other printed tights. I saw online today that they have a herringbone print that looks really lovely. I'm surprised at how much I am reaching for these pants. They may have a convert here! ;)

  5. Agree with Dewa- love the chatarunga tights! Also they have some nice running crops and bathing suits but def some of their stuff can be hideous. Their return policy if certainly refreshing coming from the buy now or else world of lulu! That being said, you can't beat lulu styling and designs. Athleta has not figured out how to make a on-boxy tank or pullover yet.

  6. I've said it here before, I like Athleta. Part of the reason being they're one of only a few companies with quality athletic wear that will ship to FPO/APO. Agreed, some of the prints I wouldn't touch. But as others here have said, the chaturanga tights are wonderful. I love their simple knee length knit skirts (have 4 colors), and the tangram capris are my current go to's on my multipurpose days (when I teach yoga and coach run). Not sheer, petite sizing, regular sales, and excellent CS.

I still love plenty of my LLL gear and occasionally order. (not often since it must be shipped to someone in the US, then turned around to me). But it's hard to beat giving business to a company that actually cares about having your business!

PS: Love to see your regular appearance of the yin to you crops! They tend to be a less popular LLL item. LOVE mine and wear them every week when I teach in the schools!

  7. I like lululemon and athleta both. Its not like lululemon doesn't have a few ugly pieces. I like athleta because they seem more reliable. Pants are not sheer, no snags, and sizing seems more consistent.

  8. Ok, you guys are making me feel bad! I know that lulu has come out with its share of stinkers this past year, but for some reason Athleta just doesn't do it for me. This morning my husband flipped thru the catalog and said he didn't see any difference between the two! So. I will order something from Atheta in the next few weeks.

  9. I do appreciate a few of the styles, but not most like with Lulu. Can't attest to their quality but the designs just don't seem as "fun".

  10. I was in the store last weekend. I found a few nice things, but I tried on 10 things and walked out with nothing! The materials actually feel nice, but they fit frumpy! I thought they were supposed to be the "cheap" alternative for LLL, but they were just as much. Seriously....if it is only going to save me $10-15, I might as well buy LLL.

BTW - I do agree with their prints! UGLY! I liked their paisley print for the chatarunga tights, but that was it!

  11. this thread is so entertaining! i love LLL because i can go for a run, take my kids to the park then run errands all the while feeling put together and stylish whilst enjoying the incredible functionality of my workout gear. athleta (other than a very small group of basics) just seems frumpy and mumsy!

  12. also because LLL gear is so re-sellable i don't hesitate to buy! i don't see many peeps clamoring on ebay for athleta!

  13. I've been loyal to LLL for a couple of years now, but when Athleta opened a store in my hometown, I decided to give them a try. I was so glad that I did. Their stuff is sturdy. And it washes well. It doesn't get worn looking within a handful of uses.

Yes, some of the patterns are not to my taste. There are always a few racks of clothes that I walk right past. But come on. Think of some of the UGLY patterns or styles that LLL has come out with in the last couple of years. I still shudder when I think about Laceoflage or Blurred Blossom. But even if you liked those patterns, you can't deny the frustration of the sheer factor, or the inconsistent sizing, or the way that they've tinkered with favorite items and made them worse. For every gorgeous item that LLL makes, there's something that's 1) sheer, 2) super fragile, 3) likely to give you camel toe, 4) make your chest look awful, or 5) way overpriced.

So anyway. I'm not giving up LLL, but I've definitely welcome Athleta into my wardrobe, too.

  14. Athleta at least has more variety. I'm so over this color scheme of plum & cornflower.
